John 12:32 “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me.”
It was an extraordinary occasion upon which the Saviour uttered these words; it was the crises of the world!
The Roman soldiers were roaming the streets of Israel, taking whatever they wanted. The Pharisees and Scribes were also on the take – making haughty deals with the Romans in order to secure their place and position in the ranks of society.
The Jewish nation, the guys on the ground, the normal citizens; which would be you & me, cried out for a way out!
They were hoping for the next king David that would save them from the tyranny of the Roman Empire and here appears a Man who claims to be the Messiah. Just days before He called Lazarus, who was already dead four days, from the grave. They followed Him and witnessed many miracles, yet the Bible say in verse 37: “though He had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in Him.”
Many times in our lives, even as we follow Jesus, we get to a place where it feels that our world is in crises. Many times it feels that way, because it is that way; bad things happen to good people, and you see God blessing everyone around you, even miracles happen in the lives of your family or friends, you might even witness how dead situations come to life because of God’s amazing grace and unmerited favour over your brethren, but it does not relief you out of your situation.
Maybe as you read this you are exactly in a situation like this, or if you haven’t been here yet, it might come your way – I want to go as far as to say “it is bound to come your way” where you will see all the peoples around you receiving awesome miracles, receiving the gift of life, while you seem to be stuck under a dark cloud.
It is then that this Word in John 12:32 needs to be put in practice.
When all things seem to be falling apart – LIFT UP THE NAME OF JESUS!
When your world is in a crises and no miracle seems to be coming your way – LIFT UP THE NAME OF JESUS! – for He will draw you ‘up’ to Him and give you peace that surpasses all understanding!!
This past Christmas season I buried my nephew; my sister’s 15 year old son, the oldest grandson of my mother.
As heart-wrenching it was and still is, when asked my sister how she was holding up, she would politely reply “holding on to Jesus”.
Lifting up the Name of Jesus in the toughest of times won’t necessarily take away the problem nor will the pain and hurt of what you are going through miraculously disappear, but it will give you strength to carry on because Jesus said: “if I’d be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto Me.”!
May God bless you in this year as you lift up the Name of Jesus through every situation you might encounter.
PRAYER – Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Jesus! We will lift up the precious Name of Jesus Christ wherever we go. AMEN
